The Bothy
Winner of The Best Home/Building Improvement at The Trade Awards 2024
The Bothy underwent a comprehensive, carefully considered restoration, blending traditional craftsmanship with refined contemporary detailing. All existing stonework was meticulously raked out, cleaned, and repointed using lime mortar to preserve the building’s character and integrity.
The roof was fully insulated and the ceiling ply-lined, with bespoke structural beams handcrafted from reclaimed railway sleepers and expertly installed to create warmth and architectural interest. A fully insulated suspended floor was constructed, incorporating underfloor heating, and finished with premium oak flooring throughout.
Bespoke elements included a custom mini door, newly fitted windows, and a statement bar designed and built from reclaimed scaffold boards. A complementary bar wall and shelving were also designed and handcrafted to enhance both functionality and visual impact.
Trusted local specialists were co-ordinated to deliver new lighting, upgraded electrics, and the installation of a new boiler flue, ensuring seamless integration across all trades. Throughout the project, close collaboration with the client was maintained, with guidance provided on materials, finishes, and design choices, ensuring a truly personal and exceptional result.
